Data Masking Project for A City Commercial Bank

The project uses the Data Masking System to protect important data in non-production environments, preventing data leakage.

Background

A city commercial bank has a large amount of sensitive information, including client information and financial information. During the construction and use of database application systems, databases of the bank often need to provide test data for development and testing of application systems in non-production environments. However, use of data in non-production environments may cause data leakage because no protective measure is taken. The bank requires effective technical measures to protect important data in its databases during the use of data in non-production environments.

Activity & Announcement
Solution architecture

The bank deployed Topsec Data Masking System on its network in bypass mode. Users can log in to the system from their PC to mask data in the source database and send masked data to the destination database. Key data to be masked include client name, phone number, address, ID card number, company name, and tax registration number. The system uses deep content recognition technology to identify such data from data tables, and then masks the data based on masking settings. The system is easy to deploy. As masked data is provided to developers, the risk of data leakage is lowered greatly.

Value to the customer
Simple deployment

The system uses a B/S architecture and can be installed easily at a low cost. It is easy to use, and users can complete all operations without instructions by professionals.

Prevention of data loss

Masked data remains the original relations in data tables and is provided in a sufficient amount to simulate the real application systems for development and testing. This also prevents loss of real data, because the data become fake after use.

Abundant masking algorithms

The system provides a variety of masking algorithms for users to choose and allows them to define new algorithms through the interfaces provided.
